Geppi's Entertainment Museum
May 11, 2009
All last week I was like a kid counting down the days until Christmas or the last day of school. I've been wanting to check out the Barbie exhibit at Geppi's Entertainment Museum ever since last November! It's only going to be around until the end of this month, and I didn't want to miss out. I absolutely love Barbie! Not so much the doll itself, but the fashion. So when I saw the advertisement for the exhibit, right away I pictured every model kitchen set, cafe, school, office, rock concert, etc. that Barbie has ever staged. I couldn't wait to see the rooms upon rooms filled with wall to wall Barbie memorabilia. To my dismay, the large memorabilia-filled exhibit was nothing more than a small room that encased a large collection of the collector's edition Barbies, (I was never interested in those...) one dollhouse, some fun facts on the wall, and a cute little Mattel Barbie car (you know, the ones only 2yr olds can fit in). Not wanting my trip to the museum to be a total waste, I began to venture out into the other rooms. Geppi's is a pop culture museum and each exhibit is displayed in chronological order by decade. When I made my way into the 80's it was without a doubt the highlight of my day.

Baltimore's City Paper says it should be called the "Hey-I-used-to-have-that!" museum and damn if I didn't catch myself saying that over and over! It was a pleasant and unexpected trip down memory lane to see all the things that made my childhood so much fun. You name it, they had it, or a picture of it. Rainbow Bright, Atari, Michael Jackson albums (vinyl ya'll) New Kids on the Block dolls, I could go on and on. Check out my picture gallery and if you're ever in Baltimore, stop by the museum it's right next door to Camden Yards, and admission is only $1 on days the Orioles are playing (which was a very nice surprise).

I have got to go to this place. It has my name on the front door and I have never been inside.
